We are incredibly excited to welcome you and your children to a brand-new year of learning in Year 5/6. We have a fantastic year ahead, filled with engaging topics, memorable experiences and opportunities for every child to challenge themselves, grow in confidence and develop a love of learning.
This year, our Year 5/6 unit will provide a rich and stimulating learning environment where children are encouraged to be independent, curious and resilient learners. Through a carefully planned curriculum, pupils will build on their prior knowledge, deepen their understanding across all subjects and develop the skills they need as they prepare for the next stage of their education. Alongside whole-class teaching, we will offer opportunities for collaborative learning, practical investigations and independent projects that allow children to apply their learning in meaningful ways.
Our unit benefits from a dedicated team of experienced practitioners who work closely together to ensure that all children are supported, challenged and inspired to achieve their very best. We are committed to creating a positive, inclusive environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to reach their full potential.

School Meals
KS2 school meals need to be ordered and paid for in advance via ParentPay, the school lunch menu is available on the homepage of our website. If you think you may be eligible for free school meals, please speak to a member of the office team.
Healthy School
At Penryn Primary Academy we want to promote the health and well-being of the whole school community through all aspects of food and drink, physical activity and positive emotional health. In line with our healthy school policy we provide each child with a Penryn Primary Academy water bottle, which is kept in school, cleaned and filled with water for your child.
We have worked hard to improve our children's knowledge and understanding of healthier choices. As part of this, only fruit is to be eaten as a snack at breaktime. This is provided by the school for your child or they can bring some from home. We ask that any grapes are sliced in half.
Homework
Homework plays an important role in reinforcing the learning that takes place in school and helps children develop independence, responsibility and positive study habits. We ask that all children read daily and regularly practise their times tables using Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS), as fluency in reading and number facts supports learning across the curriculum.
In addition, children will be set English and Maths homework each week. These tasks are designed to consolidate classroom learning, build confidence and provide opportunities to practise key skills. Regular completion of homework has a significant impact on progress and helps ensure children are well prepared for the challenges of Year 5/6 and beyond.
We greatly appreciate your support in encouraging good homework routines at home and helping your child to take pride in their learning.
Forest School, PE & Swimming
We are fortunate to offer a range of enriching opportunities beyond the classroom, including Forest School, PE and swimming. These sessions help children develop important life skills such as teamwork, resilience, independence and confidence, while also promoting physical and mental wellbeing.
Forest School provides exciting opportunities for outdoor learning, problem-solving and exploration in a natural environment. PE lessons encourage children to stay active, develop their fitness and learn the value of teamwork and sportsmanship. Swimming is an essential life skill, and we are proud to provide regular opportunities for children to improve their confidence, technique and water safety knowledge.
Please don't forget to check the class timetable for details of PE, swimming and Forest School days, and ensure your child comes to school with the correct kit and equipment so they can fully participate in these valuable experiences.
SAT's, London Residential and and a Fantastic Final Year
Year 6 is an exciting and memorable milestone in your child’s primary school journey. Throughout the year, we will support children as they prepare for their Key Stage 2 SATs, helping them to build confidence, resilience and strong learning habits. Our focus will always be on ensuring children feel prepared and positive, celebrating their progress and achievements every step of the way.
One of the highlights of the year is our London Residential, which provides an unforgettable opportunity for children to experience the capital’s rich history, culture and famous landmarks. It is always a hugely rewarding trip that helps children develop independence, responsibility and lasting friendships.
As the summer term approaches and SATs are behind us, there will be plenty of opportunities for children to enjoy the final weeks of primary school together. From exciting projects and enrichment activities to special events and celebrations, we make sure the end of Year 6 is filled with memorable experiences and fun, helping children create lasting memories before they move on to secondary school.
